When Should You Start a Wedding Registry?

Last week we posted a survey on the blog to collect data on when our readers thought it best to start wedding registries, as well as when they typically bought gifts for weddings. Using this scientifically and statically sound method of data collection (sarcasm), we were able to examine the responses of twenty-one readers. And after a detailed, in-depth analysis, I have determined that most people expect you to have your registry finished a loooooong time before they ever actually use it. In fact, while over 85% of people purchase gifts only before the event or at the last minute, over 70% expect wedding registries to be complete at least six months ahead of time or ASAP*. How's that for a double standard? :-)  Feel free to dispute my claims, but this is scientific data... statistically sound and all that. Feel free to examine it yourself if you don't believe me.

*Please note that these statistics include responses in the "other" category that leaned in one particular direction.

In the end, I still caved in, and Lauren won the war against my procrastination. So even though we left the job half-finished because Target's scanners kept running out of power on us, we have at least started. Click on the registry link at the top of the page if you're interested in what we've got so far.

Feel free to weigh in on what you think of our little survey...
