Dave Ramsey, Toms and Spending Your Tax Money on Credit Card Bills

During the Christmas Season I read this book. It ruined my life, or really the way I shop. There was a sale on Toms, here on Wednesday. I logged on, found a pair of burlap ballet flats and vegan yellow flats and had them in my shopping cart. And they sat there. With free shipping, basically begging for me to wear them. I stared at them, they stared back at me, a sagebrush blew by. I looked lovingly at my husband and to his credit, he didn't tell me either way if I should or shouldn't get them... so when he didn't say anything, I knew that I shouldn't spend our hard earned money on more debt.

Josh and I have a plan to pay off our debt now. Sometimes it sucks. Sometimes we slip. But in the end we know that we need to make drastic changes in the way we use our money. We have credit card debt, school debt and a mortgage. We have paid off both our cars and are on our way to making sure we have no more credit card debt. Which means we have to make sacrifices. We are using all our tax money this year to pay it off. And right now it stinks, I would much rather have those Toms on my feet. But in the long run, being debt free is better than having fashionable feet.

I have this verse in my wallet, it holds my debit card and really makes me think about my purchases. "The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender." Proverbs 22:7 I don't know about you but I don't want to be ruled by my money.

And in a moment of weakness, I am just going gaze at these shoes and think about all the fun adventures we could have had, and adventures we might have when Josh and I are debt free!

Here is to a debt free 2014!
