Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month. I don't claim to be an expert because I work in Education and went to a five hour training one time. What I do know is that I have students in my class who have Autism and they are funny, smart, capable individuals. What I will show you is one of my awesome kid's work who has Autism. His artwork is amazing.

Right now his interests are Paranormal Activity, Legos and Cartoon Millionaire. He always says "ladies love artists" and can sit for hours drawing. He comes to my class everyday and works on his sketchbook, showing his drawing to other students who are in awe of his abilities.

He started drawing this building after my sixth graders started learning about Roman Architecture, I love when his artwork reflects what we are learning about in class (notice the CM on the flag? Cartoon Millionaire).

This drawing made me so happy, the eighth graders were learning about Wayne Thiebaud and he added a bakery in his drawing and included a cake on the right that was very similar to Thiebaud's work.

I love that our district is so supportive of him and every other student in our county. He has won local and state level art competitions. I am so so so very blessed to be a small part of his art journey and I can't wait to see where he ends up.
