This weekend I participated in a Girls On The Run 5k. One of my favorite people, Angela, is a coach for this program and invited me to be a mentor runner for one of her team. Girls On The Run is a non profit program that empowers girls to get fit, be kind and show compassion. Their mission is
to inspire girls to be joyful,
healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which
creatively integrates running.
The girl I was supposed to run with ended up not being able to run so I ran with another girl and Angela. The girls as a team ran 10 minutes faster than they did their first race, while running faster wasn't a goal, it was great to see what hard work and team building do! The coaches made all the girls capes to wear during the race, how awesome was that?
See if there is a program near you (they have a fall and spring program). If you can't volunteer for a whole semester think about being a mentor runner for a race.
