The Classroom Of The Walking Dead

This summer I attended the ART of Ed's summer online conference and holy cow did I learn a lot. My favorite project was the Zombie Face Morph from Mr. McCormick Art. I don't know about you but my kids are REALLY into the Walking Dead... and since talking about art careers is an important part of the art curriculum, this project fit the bill. Please note, I realize that not all children are into zombies, so I opened this project up to any sort of face more. I had one student carve the face into a pumpkin, another into a Dia De Los Muertos skull and another a minion. Students had pretty much free reign on what they were going to create. But many many many of them chose zombies. And they ended up being a bit gruesome. Next time I teach this I am going to steer away from the grotesque and give them more structure on what to do. That being said, everyone of my students said this was their favorite project and many of them stayed after school to continue working on it.
