Watercolor Zentangle Animals

Do you ever do a project that works well one year, but isn't too successful the next? I found that this year when I tried to do Zentangle animals with my new sixth graders. They weren't bad but they really struggled with the Zentangle concept. My blogger friend Abby had a really successful time with her elementary schoolers with a similar project found here.

Students created a contour line drawing of the animal of their choice, then painted either a primary, secondary, cool or warm color scheme using watercolor. They then drew at least different types of Zentangles on top of their image. This is usually a great way to introduce color and line.

Have you created projects that have varied in success from year to year?

Happy Wednesday!
