Welcome Back!

This new school year has been such a change. My husband and I moved across the country to the PNW and are loving it. I am still teaching middle school, just in a different location. The most notable difference is I have a kiln!! No more trucking school project to and from the high school to get fired. So pumped.

Here is a quick overview of what we have been up to.

Eighth graders have been working (some harder than others) on their monochromatic grid celebrity portraits. This has been an extremely long process but I am so excited that they are sticking with it!

Starting from the top left, seventh graders figured out two point perspective with out much difficulty, Eighth graders worked on their Danny Haas Inspired self portraits and blew my mind. We started our first clay project of the year, the first being Empty Bowls. I am excited to see how this project turns out. We will be donating the money earned to our backpack program that sends food home with kids on the weekend that might not otherwise be fed. Sixth graders tried their hand at clay whistles, about seventy percent succeeded in making theirs actually work. Fifth graders we working on individual clay totems that we will display as a group. Seventh graders used 12th century gargoyles as inspiration for their clay pieces. Lastly today I hung up some art in the district office. It is always so great to see how excited our board members get over our student's work.

What has been up in your classroom?
